Hello, it’s so nice to meet you! Our names are Arnie Hoffmann and Milap Bedi, and we’re the owners of Ancaster Cheese & Fine Foods, previously known as Taj Mahal Spices and Cheese. We wanted to create a space that welcomed everybody, and that’s exactly what we’ve done. Our motto is “Come in as a customer, leave as a friend,” and we strive to make sure that our store is inclusive of everyone. We are dog friendly and you will be greeted by Mozart (Momo) when you arrive !
Our journey to opening the shop began in 2014 when we met in Saint Martin. When Milap moved to Canada to be with Arnie, we wanted to create something that was uniquely ours. Arnie grew up in a German, meat-loving family in Ancaster and Milap grew up in an Indian, vegetarian family in Mumbai, so we wanted to represent that wide range of experience and share it with the wonderful citizens of Ancaster and beyond.
Our wide variety of items allows you to travel the world while staying comfortable in our cozy little shop in downtown Ancaster. It is vitally important for us to invest back in our community, and so we endeavour to stock high-quality items from local makers. We offer everything you need to make your cooking spectacular, ranging from gourmet cheeses (both vegan and dairy-based), to hand-crafted ice cream, to sustainably-sourced meats, and that’s just the tip of the iceberg!
